Our Prayers Outlive Us

Our Prayers Endure

A broken down car wreck, without an engine, in the Kalahari Desert in Nambia, Africa.

God shapes the world by prayer. Prayers are deathless. They outlive the lives of those who uttered them. (E.M. Bounds)

I believe E.M. Bounds is right. Prayers which match God’s will have a shelf life greater than the person who prayed them.

Incense

In John’s Heavenly vision,  the incense and the prayers of believers are offered together.

Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all God’s people, on the golden altar in front of the throne.

The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand. (Revelation 8:3-4 NIV)

It’s an intimate image. His people’s prayers rise up continually in the  holy presence of God; my prayers and yours too. If our requests came from the heart of the Holy One, they don’t fade away or get neglected. He simply answers them in His time.
