He’s Always Beside Us

Our Savior guides us even in dark and scary places.
The Lord walks with us during traumatic times, when our emotions are in such an uproar we can’t even sense His presence.
Life happens; a paralyzing car accident, or sudden cancer diagnosis, or becoming a young widow with small children to care for. My own darkest path occurred after my parents died, when my only brother attempted suicide. He died in the ICU five days later.
Psalm 139:7-12 asks a key question, and then answers it decisively.
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you. (Psalm 139:7-12 NIV)
Never Abandoned
The Psalmist talks about the impossibility of fleeing God’s presence. It’s true. We can’t flee from Him. Once we are His, the Holy Spirit dwells inside us,
So even when a Christian quits the church and stomps off into the world, the Almighty tags along. Like a good father, He may discipline us, but He won’t ever betray or abandon us.
My Spiritual Point
Often during a crisis we feel isolated and completely cut off from the Lord.. But that’s not true. Our Heavenly Father never abandons His children when life gets rough.
Instead, He draws nearer.
