Navigating the Unknown

The Unseen World

I believe Jesus’ teachings, So I am firmly convinced of the existence of both heaven and hell. I also believe in the supernatural. Invisible angels and demons both seek to influence our world by swaying people to bring in either the Devil’s or God’s agenda. But I’m navigating the unknown and I have to walk by faith. Because I’ve never seen the spiritual reality our Lord spoke of so often.

Blind by Design

A 35mm camera pointing the wrong way, while a lioness studies it curiously. In this image, the camera obviously is pointing the wrong way. But for us it’s even worse. With very few exceptions, believers don’t have the “special camera and equipment” needed to see the spiritual realm. Only a handful of Christians can sense a demonic presence. Some have described it as a foul odor. Few have seen demons or encountered angels. The spiritual gift (1 Corinthians 12:10) of the “distinguishing of spirits” is rare among us.

The Dangerous Room

Yet we have an invisible enemy. In life, we’re like blindfolded people walking through a booby-trapped room. So how do we avoid the devastating soul-mangling pitfalls and hazards Satan sets Close-up of a blindfolded man indoors.before each of us?

We need to trust our Heavenly Guide

God knows where all the traps are. When we walk in His will, He steers us around  every stumbling block the Devil puts in our path.

Here’s what I’m sure of:

  • Satan’s temptations are meant to destroy us and it often takes years before the horrible consequences explode in our face.
  • If a particular sin looks very attractive, you’re looking at the bait, not the Devil’s hook.
  • The Lord’s commands are like a loving mother telling her small child, “Don’t touch the hot stove.”
  • The fruit the Holy Spirit springs forth whenever we choose to obey and is much greater than we can imagine.
  • It’s always wise—though sometimes hard—to obey the Holy Spirit.
My Spiritual Point

Navigating the unknown isn’t easy. But God wants us to walk by faith, because He wants each of us to come to trust Him in a deeper way. That only comes by experience.. Even those Christians with the gift of spiritual discernment still have to choose to walk where the Holy Spirit’ leads.
