Hungering for the Spirit of Truth

When Lies Abound

A Franciscan brother wearing a brown robe, walks through the forest toward a bright yellow light. Is anyone else weary of the lies people believe and the resulting hatred that spurts out? On social media, everyone lives in an echo chamber. So their own false beliefs are reinforced daily. And the truth is flatly dismissed. I’ve seen good Christians, who I love, get violently angry against other Christians who don’t agree with them. And I’m not immune. Some lies, especially false biology “facts” cause my temper to flare up. If you have a degree in biology like I do, these lies are easy to spot.

Unfortunately, convincing people of the truth is much more difficult than it used to be.

One problem is many of us get the lies from people we trust. Only the guy who first posts the false information knows it’s a made-up lie. If it’s cleverly done and hits the right emotional buttons, everyone else believes it and spreads this alarming “new truth.”

That’s how the Devil’s deception works and I’ve never seen him so successful.

Here’s the trap; I can often clearly see the falsehoods other people believe. But I am blind to my own.

Because the lies I personally believe feel true to me.

Thank you Lord Jesus for the Holy Spirit

Fortunately, we have a divine ally. Because the Bible is very clear. The followers of Christ have received the indwelling Holy Spirit and He is called “the Spirit of Truth.”

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (John 16:13 NIV)

I want to be a woman who walks in truth 100% of the time.

Someone said, “All truth is God’s truth.” That’s a good way of expressing something vital. Our God is the God of truth and Satan is the “Father of Lies.”

So starting in 2020, I began to pray, “Lord, reveal the lies I’m believing.”

Will you join me?
