The Wrong Room

zzzz

If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room. (Unknown.)

No one knows who said this quote first, but many of us recognize it’s wisdom. Personally this saying feels modern to me.

But I first heard these words among Confucius’ sayings.

Some People are Smarter

Yes, geniuses live in every culture, worldwide.. These achievers are innovative, hard-working, curious and amazingly insightful. The successful ones pursue their dreams relentlessly.

And everyone else reaps the fruit.

But there’s a problem.

They can end up in the wrong room. A person who’s foolish enough to believe he or she is better than everyone else is crippled.

Why? Because yes, you’re better at some things, but I’m better at others.

I started out a proud atheist. God was merciful; he humbled me. Now, forty years later, I’m a woman who’s less proud. Yay!

The Pitfall of Arrogance

The problem is that none of us can see our mental “blind spots” and of all the sins, arrogance and pride were high on the Bible’s despised list.

TheĀ arrogant cannot stand in your presence. You hate all who do wrong; (Psalm5:5 NIV)

Why can’t the arrogant stand in God’s presence?

It because they’re too proud to submit to Him. So they end up “self-exiled.”

Jesus died for these people too. Our Savior offers each a cleansing from sin, redemption, freedom from guilt and emotional healing. Plus everlasting life, fullĀ  peace and fulfillment.

Who would turn away from a great deal like that?

The blindly arrogant always do, determined that no one—-including God—will tell them what to do. Please pray for them.
