Mother Theresa on Prayer

A Great Quote on Prayer

A miniature Japanese Bonsai tree.

God shapes the world by prayer. The more praying there is in the world the better the world will be, the mightier the forces against evil.  (Mother Theresa)

The Bonsai Tree

I chose a Japanese Bonsai tree for this quote because of Mother Theresa’s first six words;

God shapes the world by prayer.

People who create Bonsai trees use extensive pruning, twisted wire and other techniques to reshape a tree into a piece of living art. In the same way, a Christian’s prayers can have life-changing, world-shaping consequences.

Because we cry out to the one true God.

As Christians grow, we start to reflect His heart. Then our prayers have greater power because the Holy Spirit prompts us to pray according to God’s “wish list.”

My Own Opinion

I look forward to meeting Mother Theresa in Heaven. Because Mother Theresa:

  • Bonsai trees together,. forming a miniature landscape.Shared Jesus’ tender heart for the dying and the poor.
  • Yielded to her Master’s plan for her life.
  • Ministered to all the people in India; Muslims, Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, etc.
  • Understood and practiced lordship, repentance, humility and forgiveness.

In other words, Mother Theresa’s life reflected Christ’s heart in a very real, practical way.

But wait, Maureen. “Did she pray the sinner’s prayer?”

No, I don’t think so. But Internet sources claim the sinner’s prayer only came into existence in the early 20th century. Which means none of the Apostle Paul’s converts prayed it either and neither did the 1st century church, John Wesley or Martin Luther.

So Mother Theresa is in good company. Do you remember Jesus’ words?

16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. (Matthew 7:16-17 NIV)

It’s amazing, but the whole world recognizes Mother Theresa’s “good fruit.”

Resources:

The best resource for prayer that I know of is kathleendillard.com. Kathleen has a prophetic gifting. She and her husband Wayne also labored for many years in India, teaching Christian leaders how to use prayer for spiritual breakthroughs in the midst of a idol-worshipping culture.

Here’s a great video “How to make a Bonsai Tree.”
